What Is The Cause Of Hyperventilation?

My 16 year old daughter has been having random gasp of air, that at times are quite violent and almost seem like hyperventilating, and just recently it symptoms are including blackouts. These gasps of air occur typically when she is not stressed. We have had several blood tests, xrays, and the doctors have no ideas what is causing the problem.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your daughter's situation and problem.
Since her routine investigations are normal, no need to worry for major heart and lung related diseases.
These kind of symptoms are commonly seen in psychotic diseases like panic attacks, attention deficit syndromes etc.
So better to consult psychiatrist and get done counseling sessions.
Try to identify stressor in her life and start working on its solution.
She may need psychotic drugs too.
Don't worry, she will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your daughter. Thanks.
