What Is The Cause Of Black Tarry Stools With Nervousness When On Neurontin?
I have started on neurontin one week ago for nerve pain from knee surgery 1 tablet a day plus vicodin and hydrochlorothiazide.IAm having black tarry stools and nervousness plus the swelling in my knee does not decrease with ice and elevation. Is it safe to discontinue the neurontin at once. It is just been 5days since starting it. I am taking kaopectate for the diarrhea.

Neurotin the gabapentin is a good drug for controle of pain, but there are side effects as usual to any drug. Black tarry stools may be due to the gastric irritation and micro bleeding in the stomach.
The swelling of the knee after surgery may be due to the infection, or lack of immobilization.
I advise you to consult your surgeon for diagnosis and treatment.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms neurotropic injections for 10 consecutive days and then periodically.
Calcium and vitamin D supplements ,ofloxacin, and pain killers when ever necessary.
Avoid taking potato, other tubers, tomato, egg, chicken, and sea foods.
