What Is The Cause And Treatment For Numbness In Hands?
I was diagnosed over 20 years ago with carpel tunnel, but it wasnt that bad then. I had 2 corizone shots over 19 years ago. Now its to the point where i cannot sleep, when I sit down now my hands get numb. Its been like this for many, many years. Is there anything that I can take. I wear the hand wrap, but that doesnt work.
Thanks for posting your question on HCM! Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs as a result of compression of the median nerve in your wrist. It provides sensation to the palm side of your thumb and fingers, with the exception of your little finger. It also provides nerve signals to move the muscles around the base of your thumb (motor function). Anything compresses the median nerve in the wrist can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. Most of the time cause is unknown. However there are some risk factors that can contribute to it like it is more common females because of small anatomical space around the wrist, fracture around the wrist, over use of wrist in the work place like computers, inflammatory conditions like rhuematoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, pregnancy and menopause.
If you are not getting relieved from the medicines, then you have to consult an orthopedic surgeon for the possible surgery to relieve pressure on your median nerve by cutting the ligament pressing on the nerve.
I hope your question has been answered. Regards!
