Hello and welcome to HCM, Hernia is abnormal protrusion of normal body contents through an opening into sac like structure called hernial sac. Cause of hernial sac is weakening of abdominal muscles. Loss of tone of abdominal muscles is responsible for hernias. In addition, weight gain, diabetes can aggravate the condition. Surgical treatment is the treatment of choice for hernia. However, management depends on the site of hernia whether it is umbilical, inguinal, femoral etc. Consult your surgeon for clinical assessment and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
