What Is The Best Medicine For Depression?

I am currently on Paraxotine for depression, but I don t like the amount of time it has me sleeping (12 hours). I decided to stop taking the med, and I am feeling very dissy and nausaus. Is there a med. that can help me when I am feeling down, and dismiss them, when I feel OK? I am trying to go cold turkey from Parax. I am in my second week, and my head feels really off, am I doing the right thing? When I spoke to my Psych. she was pro, my getting off them. She suggested Cymbalta, but it is too expensive.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Paroxetine is a SSRI group of anti-depressant drug. The drug is known to cause sedation as side effect. You are thinking to stop using Paroxetine cold turkey because of drowsiness. Stopping the drug abruptly may lead to withdrawal syndrome so I would suggest you to taper the doses of the drug gradually over 6-8 weeks to prevent withdrawal syndrome. Cymbalta or duloxetine has less sedation as compared to Paroxetine but the drug is expansive. In such situation you can consider taking other SSRI drug which doesn't cause sedation like Escitalopram, Fluoxetine etc. These drugs don't cause sedation and are usually prescribed in day time. You can consult with your psychiatrist for these drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
