Hi doctor I am 20 weeks. 6 days pregnant..I got my anomaly scan done yesterday...fetus has bilateral pelvictasis on right side it is 6mm and on left side it is 6.2 mm...I am a medical student myself and know it should ideally be less than 4mm...so I am worried....will it regress in 3rd trimester or what should I do u reduce it doctor Thanks
In cases of bilateral pelviectasis, we should make sure that the findings are not a normal variant. The best thing to do is too watchful waiting, observe the changes in the following weeks.
Sometimes, this can disappear on its own. In case, there is a real serious problem, it is often associated with other urological issues.
These are noted in the following weeks as the urinary pathways are obstructed, and kidney keeps ballooning. So, do not rush, just keep regular follow-ups with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
