What Is My MRI Report Suggestive Of?

Husband MRI shows he has cerebellar encephalomalcia. He also has multiple areas of cervical spine impairment of varying degrees of foramal stenosis..He is losing function in extremities..gait ataxia as well as sleepiness. He was injured in 2008 by a hit and run auto accident His pcp has failed to refer him to neurologist for tx after repeated requests..all outside neurologists want referrals..My question is could the accident be related to his current diagnosis and what can we do? I am watching him deteriorating. .We are from Michigan and at the mercy of the VA system Could this be considered urgent? Would appreciate any information. .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I do understand your pain and discomfort. As per history, it is a condition characterized by localized softening of brain tissues due to inflammation or hemorrhage. The softening may occur in a specific part of the brain or may be more widespread. In some rare cases, deterioration or degeneration of the brain may lead to extensive softening of the substances within.

It can affect different parts of the organ and damage tissues in the frontal lobe, occipital lobe, parietal lobe as well as the temporal lobe. Till today there is no specific cure for it and till now research is going on. Treatment of this condition is based on the reason behind it. It can happen due to internal hemorrhage in road accidents, stroke, tumors where blood circulation is disturbed due to hematoma. If you have any doubt let me know.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
