What Is Meaning Of Species Myobacterium Other Than Tuberculosis?
Dear Sir, I, R.K.Pradhan Age-39yrs Wt-81kg underwent treatment from 21.09.11 to 26.09.11 for Atypical Pneumonia and continued medicine thereafter as per doc's advice. Some blood found in sputum, so test done on 30.09.11 & report recd on 03.10.11 as under: Mycotect Test: Specimen Source: Sputum Mycobacterial DNA PCR: Detected Genus: Mycobacterium Species: Mycobacterium other than tuberculosis (MOTT) Doc has prescribed R-Cinex 450 and Benadon 40mg for 2 months with monthly check-up. Also advised to continue with Deriphyllin (tabs of Etofylline and Theophylline) and Montek LC prescribed earlier. Is it true that I am a TB patient now? Is the medicine combination perfect? How long the medicines to be taken?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Arun's Response
Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that yes you are a TB patient now. But it is MOTT. Usually the MOTT is much more sensitive to the drug you have prescribed and it usually requires less time to be cured as compared to the M. tuberculosis bacilli. Combination provided to you is perfect take it for 2 months and than again check for the status again after the end of 2 months. after that only one drug is required. If you have anything else to ask please contact me. Thanx. Dr. Arun Tank
