What Is Causing Severe Pain In Hand And Feet?

I have been diagnosed as ANA positive. My PCP sent me to a Rheumatologist to check for Lupus. He said he was ruling it out since I didn t have mouth sores...but I have a cracked lip that hasn t healed for 4 months, no matter what I use. I have severe swelling in my hands & feet & severe nerve pain in all 4, too! I keep a sinus infection year round. Every morning when I wake up & start walking about...I break out in a sweat that feels like a fever type sweat. This is NOT at all like my Hot Flashes that I ve experienced with menopause. They linger a lot longer. If I walk for very long, such as grocery shopping, I get severe pain in my buttocks that run down my legs & sometimes to my toes. Then I can t stand to sit down when this happens. They just keep me on Tramadol & Flexeril, Which I can t take at work...so I stay in pain all day long. I want a med to help my situation to where I can function. Help?

Hi
Thanks for posting your query
You need to have blood test like Serum RA factor,Anti ccp antibody, serum uric acid get it done if not done. The common arthritis is Rheumatoid arthritis which needs to be ruled out.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that is autoimmune in nature. It affects mainly synovial joints like the joints of hands, feet, although any joint can be affected by it. Just like various chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and ischemic heart disease are not curable but controllable; rheumatoid arthritis is also controllable.
With proper medication you can lead an absolutely normal life without any pain or disability. The drugs usually given are methotrexate,HCQS,Sulfsalazine along with folic acid and pain killer.
It is not advisable to stop medication on your own as it only leads to accrual of joint damage and leads to joint deformities. So keep a positive attitude and take regular medication; also exercise regularly.
Please feel free to ask me if you have any other query. Do you have a family history of multiple joint pains?
Hope this information suffices.
Take care
