What Is Amitriptyline Prescribed For?

i have been prescribed amitryptiline, not for depression, but for improving issues with urination....the doctor felt i would get up fewer times in the night to pee if i took this drug. is this a common purpose for amitryptiline prescription? when i look up the reasons for prescribing, it only mentions depression. i am having problems getting an erection recently, even when using ED drug....i feel i should quit the amitryptiline usage to combat this very vexing issue. your thoughts?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my clinical experience, the Amitriptyline has multiple mode of actions apart from depression.
* It helps to relax smooth muscles and relieve many other symptoms of the various body systems.

I recommend to consume the same drug as per advise of your doctor and be in regular follow up with your consultant.

Wish you fine recovery.
Thank you.
