What Harm Does Ingesting Glass Particles Cause?

Our 3 year old mistakenly bit down on a glass he was drinking from and it broke in his mouth. We removed a large piece which when held up the the glass fit almost perfectly in place. I say almost because we noticed tiny little pieces missing, about the size of a pin head. We found one piece in his mouth, but are worried there might be others that are too small to see. He is not in distress and we noticed no signs of bleeding from his mouth. Should we be worried? What is the potential for internal damage?

Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

I think that if there were no sharp edges and the pieces of glass were very small there is minimal, if any, chance for internal injury.
You may want to examine his bowel movements for the next 2-3 days to look for signs of blood.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
