What Does"Mucosal Thickening Of Fluid On Right Mastoid Air Cells"suggest?
Hi my name is Jann,Age 64.Height 5ft.1.I Slight build.Tomorrow I,m having a grommet inserted in my right ear by a e.n.t. specialist Last year he arranged for a MRI.Result from the M.R.I.- There is mucosal thickening or fluid in some of the right mastoid air cells. The internal auditory canals and labyrinths appear normal. The limited views of the brain show no abnormality. Conclusion: Right mastoid effusion or mucosal thickening.I want to know how successful grommets are and is there any risks when they are inserted? Thanking you Jann Hill
dear Jann you seem to be having a middle ear effusion for which grommet insertion is being done...has the doctor done a tympanogram to confirm the diagnosis? usually we give a trial of conservative treatment with intra nasal corticosteroids before we actually put in a grommet..mucosal thickening per say is a common finding on MRI mastoids especially after a common cold and does not warrant much importance...unless accompanied by other clinical signs ..no major risks after a grommet insertion ... can have persistent discharge and perforation of drum rarely take care
