What Does'defect In Posterior Medial Right Maxillary Sinus Wall'mean?
I am a 66 yr old female who had a CT scan 2 days ago. Could you please explain in simplified language the following results: 1. A defect in posterior medial right maxillary sinus wall. There is a dystrophic appearing calcifications extending through this defect from the maxillary sinus into the posterior right nasal fossa.
2. Mucosal thickening in a fluid level present in the right maxillary sinus. Opacification of right anterior ethmoid air cells and mucosal thickening in the right frontoethmoidal recess.
What would be the possible action to be taken?

1.The report suggest there is a defect and calcification in the right sinus posteriorly with extending through the nasal fossa - this can be due to any infection post treatment , trace of healed infection.
2.Other possible cause could be malignancy malignancy.
3.It can be conformed with a biopsy and nature of the cells involved.
4.Mucosal thickening noted in the rest of the sinuses - which is inflammatory cause - can be treated with a course of antibiotics.
5.In this case i would recommend to take treatment and a followup scan - if symptoms persists a biopsy to evaluate further and treated accordingly.
