What Does ‘ER’ Stand For In Ferrous Sulfate ER?

What does the ER stand for in Ferrous Sulfate ER? My Doctor suggested I take 375 mg of Ferrous Sulfate ER. I said I do not need a RX, I can probably get it over the counter. Not so easy, none over the counter seem to have the ER, much less the dosage.

Hi,

ER stands for an extended-release tablet. It is also called as sustained release tablet.

The ER pills release small amounts of the medication into a person's system over a long period of time so that optimum dose will be available for the long duration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
