What Does Traction Bronchiectasis From A Medially Located Paravertebral Mass Mean?

What is the meaning of my ct-scan findings? Findings: Right lower lobe superior segment posterior pleural thickening seen at t5/t6 level with right paravertebral mass. There are parechymal strands seen with traction bronchiectasis. The right paravertebral mass appears to have an extension at t5/t6 foramen. There is no definite parenchymal air-space nodule seen. No interlobular septal thickening seen. No ground-glass opacities seen. No mosaicism seen. No pleural effusion and calcifications seen. No emphysema noted. No enlarged lymph nodes seen. Conclusion: Roght lower lobe superior segment posterior pleural thickening with linear fibrotic parechymal strands and traction bronchiectasis from a medially located paravertebral mass t5/t6 level with right foramen extension.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Traction Bronchiectasis means bronchiectasis due to the traction caused by fibrosis in simple terms. It is the dilatation of bronchus (small wind pipe) due to scarring. You may be noticed whenever there is a scarring by injury, there will be contraction at the site of scarring causing the surrounding skin to be stretched. Likewise, due to some reasons of there is a scarring usually we tell fibrosis in lung, it will stretch the adjacent brochus causing it to dilate leading to Traction bronchiectasis.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
