My 21-year-old daughter has been aware of an odd tingling or vibrating sensation in her pelvic area for the past 3 or 4 days. It is not painful, but rather a diffuse fluttering or twitching feeling. The sensation does not seem to be associated with eating, urinating, or defecating. Her last menstrual period was about 2 weeks ago, and she has not had sexual intercourse. She has generalized anxiety disorder and is prone to somatization, and I have suggested that she try to use her therapy tools to distract herself; however, if there were a physiological explanation for the sensation that I could offer her, it might help her to get past the hypervigilance.
