What Does This Urine Test Report Indicate?

Good day Doctor, I would like to ask because I am a little worried, because currently I’m 6mos pregnant and have done my urine test recently which they found out that I have UTI. My pus cells is (10-12) and my Epithelial Cells (6-8). Is it alarming? They advised me and prescribed Urinary Alkalinizer which to take 3x a day for 5days. I am worried because I don’t want to drink any medicine at all because maybe it could affect my baby. I hope you can give me an advice. Thank you.

Hello dear
I understand your concern
Normal pus cell in the urine is upto 5/hpf.
But you have 10-12, it suggests urinary tract infection.

Pregnancy is a risk factor to develop UTI as change in urinary tract in pregnancy and uterus compress the bladder lead to incomplete voiding of urine lead to more chance of UTI.

Untreated UTI may cause low birth weight baby and pre term labour.
So better to take treatment provided by the doctor.

Take other Advises:
Drink plenty of water: minimum eight glass/day
Drink juice of cranberry, orange and pineapple
Wipe area after urination
Do not avoid to delay bladder
Antibiotics: Ciprofloxacin/norfloxacin
Continue urinary alkalizer
Wear pure cotton loose inner wear
Take shower rather than bath

Repeat the urine test after 14 days or after completion of treatment to know eradication of infection.
