Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This Ultrasound Report Of Carotid Arteries Indicate?
Good day. My 66 yr old father has just had an MRI. The dr s comments read: Several rounded ischaemic foci are demonstrated in the centrum ovale. He also had an ultra sound on the neck/carotid arteries. The Dr s comments read: Slightly larger calcified plates are seen at the left carotid Bifurcation, largest measuring 11mm. Stenosis is less than 50%. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you.
Suggestive of narrowing of the left carotid artery. Based on the report of ultrasound your father seems to have narrowing of the left carotid artery (blood vessel of left side of the neck carrying blood from heart to the brain) apparently due to atherosclerosis plaque (buildup of fat in the artery).
Advised to consult his doctor for further clinical correlation and treatment which may involve cholesterol lowering medications, and blood thinners.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
