What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

My 14 year old had an ultrasound today because of a sharp pain just above the belly button which has been on and off for about 2 weeks. The ultrasound impression results were mesenteric adrenitis and minimal free fluid in the POD. What does this mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi...
Thank you for your post.
POD means pouch of douglas. Its a small space in between posterior wall of uterus and rectum. In some inflammatory pathology, fluid may get collected here.
When you mentioned Mesenteric adrenitis, i assume you meant Mesenteric adenitis. Mesentry is a covering that encloses small intestine and attaches it to posterior abdominal wall. It contains blood vessels supplying small intestine, lymphatics and lymph nodes.
Inflammation of these lymph nodes is called as Lymphadenitis or simply "Adenitis".
Hope i have cleared your doubts.
take care . Bye
