Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Kidney stones are often diagnosed routinely in an
ultrasound done for routine checkup, If its is your case there is nothing to worry. If a kidney stone is doing no harm & is asymptomatic it should be allowed to remain there. It would slowly dissolve over time & may pass through ureter.
There are several factors which influence the ability to pass a stone. These include the size of the person, prior stone passage,
prostate enlargement, and the size of the stone.
A 12 mm stone has almost no chance of passage on its own.
Following Treatment may be further needed if stone remains stuck
1. lithotripsy- a procedure in which ultrasonic shock waves are used to break stone into smaller ones so that they pass ureter easily
2.Surgical techniques like laproscopic surgery would be used for stones which do not pass through ureter on their own.
Ketorolac , an anti-inflammatory drug, and narcotics may be used for pain control in
severe pain.
Aspirin, and NSAIDs must be avoided if lithotripsy is to be done.
Hope this information helps
