What Does This Transvaginal Ultrasound Test Result Indicate?

I received an ultrasound on last Friday and my doctor called me early Monday morning to discuss the finding and referred me to a OB/GYN specialty clinic. This is what the findings were: Transvaginal ultrasound of the pelvis redemonstrates a 1.8 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm hypoechoic lesion in the midportion of the left ovary which demonstrates internal blood flow. This lesion has slightly enlarged compared to prior examination. The previously described second cystic lesion in the periphery of the left ovary is not identified, and has likely resolved. No new cystic lesions identified within the ovaries. Redemonstration of a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis. IMPRESSION: 1.8 cm hypoechoic lesion in the left ovary now demonstrates internal blood flow and is suspicious for a small solid ovarian neoplasm. OB/GYN consult is advised. The second previously described cystic lesion in the left ovary is not identified and likely resolved. Hysterectomy. Redemonstration of a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The suspicious lesion in left ovary with internal blood flow may be sign of developing pathological lesion over and above a benign etiology. A laparoscopic removal and biopsy is best recommended step in this instance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
