What Does This Stool Test Result In Infant Indicate?
Hi doctor my daughter is 2 months old and the stool test done shows reducing substances plus green. What does this mean and what should be done? She is premature 36 and 3 days and given iron and vitamin prescribed by pediatrician . She is given only breast milk.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Stool test is done in an infant of 2 months to see whether there is any intolerance to lactose in the breast milk. IF it is present seen as reducing substances, the powder is given which is lactose-free so that the infant's intestines can tolerate and can thrive well. Green stool usually indicate an infection which goes through the nipples. Hence it is advise to wipe the nipples and areola with spirit to make it sterile a few minutes before feeding so that the infant does not get infected. I hope this answers your query.
