What Does This Pelvic Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hi I recently got pelvic ultrasound in which they performed both a transvaginal and transabdominal technique and where multiple transverse and longitudinal images were submitted in the findings its says the uterus measures 7.4x3.1x5.0 cm and it says it is normal in echo texture and contour without a focal mass (which I do not understand at all) however the uterus is retroflexed and the endometrial stripe measures 0.6 cm in other words it is an unremarkable uterus and endometrial stripe ... Can someone explain what that means please??? it also says i have a mildly enlarged right ovary that measures 3.9x1.9x3.7 cm and that it has numerous small follicles along the periphery (what are follicles) . My left ovary measures 3.3x1.8.2.4 which says it s normal size but however it also has multiple small follicles along the periphery... which in all it says like this Polycystic right ovary. Multifollicular verus polycystic left ovary. Can anyone please explain this to me please! i don t understand what that means!! is it normal is it bad ?? does it require emendate treatment??? how do I know if i have PCOS i have many of the symptoms?? how am I sure?? Anyone help please

Hello,

The report says following things:
1) Uterus is retroflexed means it is tilted back wards. This is seen in about 20% of women. This may cause some pain and may pose difficulty in getting pregnant. But not totally unusual.
2) Endometrium is inner lining membrane of the uterus, the thickness of it is quite normal. This membrane thickness varies with menstrual period. It starts thickening based on the menstrual cycle phase. Later it is shed during the menstruation as bleeding occurs in every cycle. Present membrane is normal.
3)One of the ovaries has more cysts (fluid filled small bag like structures) that is a condition seen in some females known a poly cystic ovary (poly means more). Follicles are cells seen or present in the ovary. These cells get converted to ovums or eggs, of which one or two are produced during menstruation for fertilisation. However, in females with poly cystic ovarian disease ovulation is affected, causing difficulty in getting pregnant.

In this situation your gynecologist will advise you about how to further for having a conception.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
