What Does This Lab Test Report Indicate?

Post CABG pleural effusion 1st time: thoracentesis; 2nd pleural effusion: pleurodesis. It was suggested I had a trapped lung after pleurodesis. Have extensive damage to lungs (not present before pleurodesis), including scarring, ground glass opacities, mediastinal enlarged lymph nodes, spasms of diaphragm. Any hope for recovering lung functions? No lung problems ever prior to pleurodesis.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM!

I have gone through your worries and can realize the tension building within you; but must say that the information you have given is incomplete, considering the nature of procedures done on you!

Well, If I were your treating Doctor or the pathologist, I must mention following points about your illness:

1. you must mention the volume of pleural fluid and the pathology report on it!

2. what was the method of pleurodesis: medical or surgical?

3.is there any history of tuberculosis or any previous lung infection?

4. chances of recovery depends on the pathology reports

5. you must have a sputum/BAL fluid analysis and culture test to identify the offending organisms

6. if the mediastinal lymph nodes are just recent, not to worry;you will be cures soon!

but if they were there before also, you might have tuberculosis or lymphoma also! It needs FNAC test for confirmation...

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you early recovery!
