What Does This Lab Report Indicate?

I have an infected finger, culture came back with: heavy growth of pseudomonas cells, moderate growth of mixed skin flora. A dermatologist prescribed: ciprofloxacn 500mg twice daily for four weeks. Also two ointments: gentamicin sulfate 0.1% and mupirocin 2%. I feel muscle pain, joint pain, tiredness. Is this the right treatment and are my symptoms normal. The infected area is sore at times, breaks open and drains. This has happened at least six times in the last two months.

Hi,

The treatment prescribed is appropriate. However, it is very important to surgically clear any dead or necrotic tissue and drain any pus-filled for proper healing. I suggest you go to your doctor if you can see such tissue or pus and get it cleared.

The symptoms of muscle pain, joint pain, tiredness can be systemic manifestations of the infection. I suggest you get the CBC and blood culture to rule out any systemic infection. After these tests, only further plan of treatment can be decided. I suggest you keep in touch with your physician for further plan of action.
