What Does This Hepatitis Panel Test Report Indicate?

Hi, I have just gotten a hepatitis panel drawn and I need some clarity on it. Everything is negative except the Hep B surf ab quant which is 6.1 numeric value. Which falls in the perameters of "inconsistent with immunization". Hep B core An, total was negative , and Heb BsAg screen was negative also. I was vaccinated in 1997,1998, 1999. The reason I did a test is because I was stuck with a clean suture but the glove had a little blood on it. This was about 5 months ago. Now my wife and i want to jave a baby and want to make sure im not infected.I have been reading about the results and i cant come up with an answer. Is it at 6.1 because my vaccinations arnt as strong anymore. Or am I infected with Hep B?

Hello,

The presence of Anti-HBs (Anti-Hepatitis B surface antibody) is generally interpreted as vaccine-induced immunity or immunity due to infection.

Anti-HBs develops in a person who has been successfully vaccinated against hepatitis B and protection lasts at least twenty years and is probably lifelong.

Since other parameters such as Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and total hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) are negative which indicates that you are not suffering from hepatitis B infection. So, in view of the above, you can safely plan for your baby.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
