Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This Glucose Level In An Elderly Person Indicate?
I have had two fasting blood tests and my glucose level was 144 on both tests. My doctor told me to go on a diet I am 5 11 and 191 lbs. I did what he recommend and am now down to 184lbs after two weeks. I am close to 60 years old and also have high blood pressure which I am taking meds for.Should I also be on meds for diabetes or wait until July for my next testing blood tests to see if my glucose is going down or up?
Hi, i did review your concern I would advice you to stick to what your doctor said, as it is recommended to try to control initial glucose imbalance with diet and exercise since your weight and if present central obesity can lead to insulin insensitivity and leads to glucose intolerance. It was always better to start on diabetes meds after a trial of diet and exercise, I would recommend a HBA1c, urine microalbumin and ophthalmoscopic examination tests along with this to see if there is any end organ damage that has occurred or not. I hope this helps let me know if you have any questions or concerns Wish you a very healthy and happy life.
