What Does This Following Test Result Indicate?

My son in law was diagnosed abnormal right perihilar opacity which measures 4.5 cm in craniocaudad dimension. There is some associated atelectasis or infiltrate suspected. There is a left infrahilar opacity/lower perihiar opacity which measures app 2.5 cm in diameter. Cannot exclude masses in these areas. What does all this mean.

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

I will try to put it in simple words .

Perihilar -- Mean near the centre of chest.
Atelectasis means collapse of lungs
Infiltrate means something abnormal in the lung region.

Overall the report says there is something in the centre of chest which is of 2.5*4.5 cm in size . This could be due to Infection or a Tumour .

He needs further evaluation in the form of HRCT chest which tell what exactly the problem is . Kindly get it done.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .
