What Does This Echo Test Result For Ectopic Beat While Having Atrial Fibrillation Indicate?

Hi, I was admitted to hospital last week with rapid AF. Electric Cardio Version was tried 3 times and initially went back to sinus rhythm but temporarily. After meds etc, it was back in sinus 16 hours later. An echo performed showed severely enlarged left atrium. I have an appointment with a cardiologist in about 4 weeks but not sure if I should be worried and try to get something sooner. I am feeling very tired, have an ectopic beat but am on meds now for AF.

Hello there and welcome,

Well at first let me tell you to follow the medications exactly as advised to you by the hospital for your AF(even if the rates seems to be controlled)

Secondly, can please elaborate the ECHO report / attach along-with so that I can opine . As per your query, Severely Enlarged LA is a anatomical deformity of the Left Atrium of the Heart which itself responsible for AF(but that AF is generally chronic in nature ). So have you ever experienced any palpitations before?? Can you tell me wheather you're having any other medical problems??

As per your description you need not to worry too much but in any case , 4 weeks is a long time period considering this is an acute event for you. So please try to get hold of a Cardiologist a bit sooner to get a thorough cardiological work-up done(even if it was done in hospital previously)

Thanks a lot for contacting HCM, happy to help
