What Does This Chest X-ray Report For Throat And Ear Infection Indicate?

Hi I am a 58 year old female who has smoked a pack of cigarettes since I was 20 years old. I just had a chest xray because of an infection in my throat and ears and the xray came back with this description...The cardiomediastinal silhouette is within normal limits. Vague ovoid 1 cm nodular density right suprahilar region. Lungs are otherwise clear, no effusion. I had a ct scan done and I go see my dr tomorrow for results. What does the above mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
There's a nodule of 1cm in suprahilar region in the right lung. Rest is normal. This nodule can be a pneumonia patch or a mass which may be malignant as you are a smoker for the last so many years and at this age such type of nodule cannot be ignored. CT scan will aid further in differentiating a benign from a malignant lesion. Hope you get well soon. Thank you for contacting healthcare magic.
