What Does This Blood Sugar Level Indicate?

I went to the er the other night because I was getting a numbing tingly feeling in my foot. I have heal spurs so I have been in a lot of pain. At about 10:00pm The doctor checked my blood sugar and it was 136. I hadn t eaten anything since about 1:00pm and had 2 smores at about 4pm but nothing after that. Is that a normal level?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
What the doctor has checked is your Random Blood Glucose. Random blood glucose of 136 mg/dl is normal (Range: 70 to 140mg/dl).
Since it slightly inching towards the upper limit, you can get the properly evaluated for diabetes mellitus in the following way:
1. Fasting plasma Glucose tested in blood sample given after an overnight fast of 10 to 12 hours.
2. Post-prandial plasma glucose in blood sample given at 2 hours after breakfast on the same day after giving fasting sample.
3. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in blood sample.
Kindly take an opinion from a Physician in this regard.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
Wish you all the best.
