What Does This Blood Report Indicate?

I am 46 years old male. I am diabetic. My recent bolld test results show the following value: Hb1Ac: 6.2 HDL: 44 LDL: 160 Triglyceride: 298 Total chloestreol: 240 I am taking Novastat 10mg and Gluconorm G2 & Glycepage SR 500 regularly although Novastat use was not regular. Is this treatment fine considering the tendency of my high triglyceride?

Hello Sir,

Welcome to Health Care Magic. I understand your concern.

First of all, I want to congratulate you for taking the blood sugar level under control, which is shown in your test results of HbA1c.
HbA1c is an important blood test that gives a good indication of how well your diabetes is being controlled.
Regarding the lipid profile I would like to say that it is a bit altered. Except HDL level (the good cholesterol), all the other values are over the normal range.
Your treating doctor has already prescribed you a drug, Novastat (rosuvastatin), for lowering lipid levels. This drug is the first line drug of choice for balancing lipid levels. The advice I would like to give you is to take it regularly or if after that, the results are still high, your treating doctor should consider to increase its dosage.
Regarding triglyceride level, they are not considered problematic. I suggest you to retest them, because they might be higher than normal due to an abundant dinner you had the night before the tests.
Beside this, I would also recommend you to change your life style, try to limit fat from your diet and instead begin a diet rich in fibres (plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables), use chicken and fish instead of red meat, as well as everyday physical activity. I would recommend you also to use healthier cooking methods (Baking, broiling and roasting).

Hope I answered to your question.

Take Care,
Dr. Ina Zaimi
