Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I’m 42 years old and it seems that I can hear everything well, however, my audiometry test showed hearing loss at 6000 to 8000 Hz. How significant is this loss for daily life? What are the examples of daily sounds at this frequency? I can hear birds chirping and phone ringing with no problem. What would I not hear?
It looks like you have high frequency hearing loss (to some extent). It is generally caused by noise, aging, genetics, ototoxicity, tinnitus, Meniere's disease, etc. You may find difficulty in hearing a voice in noisy places, children or female voices.
Stay away from noise pollution, shooting ranges, live concerts, etc. Get treated at the earliest. You may require hearing aids or Cochlear implants. Neglect will only result in worsening of symptoms with advancement of age.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
