What Does This MRI Test Result For Back Pain Indicate?

I had an mri for my back pain and I have a protuding disc. The test also showed the following distended gallbladder with multiple layering small stones are incidentally seen on axial images. Incidental cholelithiasis in distended gallbaldder What does that mean?

During the MRI for your back which showed a disc that may be causing your back pain, abnormalities in the gallbladder were also noted. It is not uncommon for "incidental" findings to be noted when doing a test for some other problems. Sometimes this can be life-saving. In your case what was noticed was gallbladder stones with a swollen gallbladder. Stones can be present without any symptoms. If you have been having low grade symptoms like pain in the upper right abdomen, nausea, or vomiting, this could be related to the gallstones. It is also possible the pain in your back is being referred from the gallbladder and is not related to the disc at all. Many people can have a protruding disc that may not cause symptoms. In your case, a thorough exam and possibly some other studies may be able to indicate where the pain is actually coming from. Hope this helps.
