Hi - 22 y/o nephew, no known health problems; increased c/o lower back pain, worse last 6 months, slight lower extremety weakness; went to MEA, CTscan/MRI of lower back show muscle atrophy in lower back; CPK elevated 800. Trying to calm my sister, until we see neurologist. Thanks!

Hi I did review your concern,
Elevated CPK and muscle atrophy on MRI is indicative of possible hereditary muscular disorder. It can affect any muscles and can be progressive.
mostly there is supportive treatment available in form of physiotherapy to maintain the strength of muscles. Damage to respiratory muscles is the main concern.
You are doing right thing by consulting the neurologist and trying to reach a correct diagnosis and explore some newer treatment options.
I hope this helps
wish you all the best
