What Does This MRI Report Signify?

I recently got test results back that indicate T2 hyperintense lesions in the right kidney, statistically likely to represent cysts, which could be confirmed with ultrasound....I had an MRI for lower back problems, which revealed L2-L3: Shallow left paracentral protrusion. L3-L4: Concentric broad-based disc bulge, facet osteophyte, and thickening/unfolding of the ligamentum flavum. Mild narrowing of the central canal. L4-L5: Concentric broad-based disc bulge, facet osteophyte, and thickening/unfolding of the ligamentum flavum. Mild narrowing of the central canal. L5-S1: Shallow left paracentral protrusion. Bilateral facet hypertrophy....short version. *I am concerned about the T2 hyperintense lesions in the right kidney however, my doctor has not mentioned further testing. Just received these results..so I am curious and concerned...hence not wanting cancer...

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the hyper-intense lesions over the right kidney indicate multiple cystic lesions which is almost benign condition of the kidney even found accidentally in many of the cases. However, if there is associated hypertension or other medical disorder is also present, it matters for early alteration in the renal function, otherwise chances of malignancy are remote. As you must be knowing the rest of the spine changes are in relation with age related degenerative changes or calcium homeostasis imbalance sequence most likely.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
