What Does This MRI Report Signify?

I had an MRI done and one of the findinfpgs is as per below: At L4-L5 there is a small tear of the annulus fibrosis and a disc protrusion which is extending into the central canal. There is a mild extension into the right and left neural foramina Would this be what is causing me a lot of pain in the lower back as well as in buttock area down to my right leg?

Yes, this would be the cause of the pain. It would also potentially cause nerve related symptoms if you have any at the moment eg numbness, tingling, sticking, burning

Between the vertebra are discs. These discs are made up of different areas including an outer area called the annulus fibrosis and an inner area called the nucleus pulposus.

The neural foramin is one of the areas where nerves may pass through from the spine.

The result indicates that there is a tear in the annulus with the disc protruding or extending out of its normal area.
If it is compressing on nerves exiting the foramin, this would contribute the pain.
