What Does This MRI Report For Pain In Hip And Lower Back Indicate?

Hello,I am having issues with sciatic nerve pain. I originally had pain in my left hip that progressed to lower back pain. As of the past three months I am having sciatic nerve pain almost daily. This has impaired my duties at work. I now have developed what feels like a grinding sensation deep in my left hip however it is closer to my lower back. Had MRI that says I have slight bulging of L3, 4, & 5 with mild to moderate lumbar stenosis. Can this be causing this grinding feeling? Thank you for your time.

Hello,

According to your history of the situation and the MRI results, yes, these symptoms aren’t due to the bulging of the discs. In such cases, we use steroids injections and if they don’t help than the next step is surgery. Please discuss with your doctor for the above.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Vasudha's  Response
Hi,

Yes, your symptoms can arise from lumber spinal problem. Physiptherapy to correct spinal problem / oral medicines for pain relief and vitamin B12 to improve sciatic nerve would help. Few people need intra articular steroid or surgical management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
