What Does This EMG Test Finding Indicate?
I had an EMG done and the results were abnormal. Also this is what the doctor said : This is an abnormal study. The electrophysiologic data is the most consistent with a subacute and chronic L5 radiculopathy on the right . Can you explain what this means and if it is treatable or operable please.

Radiculopathy is the pain radiating along the course of supply due to compression or injury to the nerve root. Spinal nerve exits the spinal canal through the spinal foramen. If there is any obstruction or compression of the spinal nerve in this foramen results in radiating pain in the parts of supply. Depends on the level of compression or injury, the pain differs.
MRI scan or CT scan helps to identify the pathology of nerve compression such as herniated disc or osteophytes or arthritis of the vertebral joints. Depends on the cause, the management involves analgesics to relieve pain, physiotherapy to relieve the level of compression. If the symptoms not responds to the treatment, decompression surgery is needed to release the compressed nerve root.
