What Does This CT Scan Report Mean?

Hi my father had CT scan yesterday, the findings are as below: 1.Acute focal infarct in the right half of the pons 2.No acute hamorrhage 3. Few ischemic foci in the brain parenchyma Could you please let me know what that really mean. He also had trouble speaking. Look forward to your suggestions. Regards, JS

Your father is suffering from ischemic stroke (Cerebro Vascular Accident). There is no bleeding (hemorrhage) in brain, but ischemia (decresed blood supply) is present probably because of blockage of some small blood vessels of brain. As per CT scan affected areas are cerebral parenchyma (upper brain) and Pons (lower brain). CT scan and symptoms says that area of brain affected are those area which are responsible for speech. Your father should be treated with medications and physiotherapy for early recovery along with some preventive measure to prevent further stroke.
