What Does The Presence Of Blood In Stool Indicate?

Hi I had a bowel movement and there seemed to be some bright red blood in it. And what I would describe as little red flakes on the toilet paper and on the bowel movement itself. I was just wondering if I should be concerned. I have a anxiety disorder and need to know something.

Hi,

Blood in stool will decrease your Hb if you don't find the cause and correct it. Causes may be fissure or hemorrhoids. It is most likely fissure because in anxiety disorders, patients who don't eat properly get the feeling of being constipated which results in fissure in long standing constipation. Thus, the first thing is correct. Address your anxiety disorder and change your eating habits. Last but not the least, this is a probable diagnosis so for a definite diagnosis, do contact a doctor and get your examination done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Abhishek Khera, General Surgeon
