What Does The Post-surgery Blood Platelet Function Analysis Indicate?

Hello, My 17 year old son with Autism (HF) started having severe nose bleeds about 24 months ago. He has had many cauterizations. He just had surgery procedure last week for nasal cautery. The post-surgery blood Platelet Function Analysis was high: Collagen & Epinephrine: (High) 154 secs 82-150 secs Collagen + ADP: 92 secs                 62-100 secs He was retested 2 weeks later: Collagen & Epinephrine: (High) 166 secs Collagen = ADP: 97 secs He is on the following medications: Adderall XR 25 mg, dosage 2 per day, Adderall 10 mg, 1 per day, Luvox: 100 mg, 2 per day & Seroquel XR 150 mg, 1 per day. He has not taken any aspirin. We were told that they think his Adderall XR is causing the high blood platelet counts. Is there any evidence that these types of medication cause high blood platelet counts? Is there any medical conditions that could cause these readings?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Usually Adderall is not considered as cause of high platelet counts, but certain auto immune mediated effects has to be considered by various mechanics in terms of effects of platelet precursor cells in the bone marrow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
