What Does The Number Mean In A HIV Elisa Test Mean?
HI, MY QUESTION IS THIS ONE: IF YOU TAKE THE HIV ELISA TEST 13 WEEKS (3 MONTHS) AFTER YOUR LAST SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP AND THE RESULT IS 0.143 WHEN THE CUT OFF IS 2.0 THE LAB TELLS YOU THAT ITS NO REACTIVE. BUT WHAT DOES THAT NUMBER MEAN? BECAUSE ITS VERY CLOSE TO THE CUT OFF LIMIT.
Hello and welcome to HCM, HIVELISA is an antigen-antibody reaction. It tests the antibodies against HIV virus in your body. The test is done in increasing concentrations of serum. A value of 2.0 and above is considered as reactive. All values below 2 will be considered as non-reactive no matter how close it is to the cut-off value. This is a quantitative test and not a qualitative test.
