What Does The High Haemoglobin Level In The Blood Test Indicate?

My mother is aged 76 and very active. She has had intermittent pain in the centre of her stomach beneath her tummy button which comes on after eating, This started about a year ago but has recently got much more severe. She can have a couple of days pain free but then have a bad couple of days when her tummy is making extremely loud rumbling noises and she is in pain. Usually this subsides after opening her bowels which can be firm or loose. She visited her doctor who examined her rectum and arranged blood tests and for a colonoscopy, which she has yet to get the appointment for. Her blood test results have come back showing normal kidney and liver function but her haemoglobin levels are high (84) as are the platelets. The consultant mentioned anaemia but I thought this was caused by low hb. Can you explain the blood results as I don t understand the connection to anaemia. Thank you

Hi....I m Dr.Kumarbhargav....
I understood your concern....
Looking to her profile.....she may have....underlying GI problem...
I would have looked for any blood passed in stool....have stool examination especially for occult blood....also.....if even after consulting gastroenterologist...it remains....and following age....GI scopy....would guide regarding...underlying....ulcers....like (peptic ulcers)...., Inflammatory bowel disease....or any lesion of concern....
Whether she had significant weight loss and bleeding...will be more of concern...for underlying major...problem....
So get....Occult blood and GI scopy done to rule out...major lesion....might be growth....because....we should rule out possibility of cancer also....for early detection...if there...is.....
Thanks...for contacting....Health care magic.....Take care....
Ask freely..if you want more details...
