Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, my 13 month old baby had a blood test 6 weeks after a pneumonia attack. These test results showed high lymphocyte levels 17*10^9/L . He had no signs of an infection at the time of the test. And his lymphocyte counts were normal during his pneumonia episode. But he had his MMR vaccine 3 weeks prior to the blood test that showed the high lymphocyte count. Could the vaccine have caused the elevated levels of Lymphocytes. Really appreciate any answer and thank you in advance
As per my clinical experience, the lymphocyte counts usually follow viral infection etiology and is not in concern with vaccination effect. The bacterial infection gives high neutrophil counts in against of this and I suggest that the lymphocyte count rise is in concern with viral infection induced pneumonia only.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
