What Does The Following Report Indicate?

Hi, a recent CXR reads: There is a small ill defined opacity at the right mid zone. This was not seen on previous radiograph and may represent early airspace opacification. Remainder of lungs are clear. No segmental consolidation or pleural effusion is seen. Cardiomediastinal contour is unremarkable. No osseous lesion seen. Can you put that into simple terms for me? Thanks.

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The report suggests that there is a patch / opacity which is ill defined / margins are not regular.
2.The opacities are seen as a alveolar mucosal filling - seen in the lung inflammation / infection.
3.Since its seen in specified location - its called patchy opacities.
4.In this case a course of antibiotic will be given and a followup x-ray after treatment for confirmation.
5.Rest of the findings are within normal limits.

Good luck.
Hope i have answered your query,
any thing to ask ? do not hesitate to ask.
