Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

If you have missed the period, and urine pregnancy test is +ve, this indicates that fertilization has occurred. Since ultrasound is not showing a sac inside uterus, we have to rule out ectopic pregnancy (sac sitting outside uterus), which is an emergency situation that needs medical termination to avoid complication like rupture and internal bleeding.

In such cases, as the radiologist suggested, a blood HCG testing or repeat urine testing, followed by trans vaginal USG can define the situation more clearly. Your obstetrician will discuss this in detail with you.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
