Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had an MRI of the brain. It stated that I had scattered areas of increased FLAIR and T2 signal in the white matter bilaterally. Also, asymmetry in the hippocampus. Left is more prominent and demonstrates slightly increased signal compared to that on the right. Also, moderate mucoperiosteal thickening of the frontal and ethmoid sinuses. DX: cerebral atrophy with chronic small vessel white matter ischemic change...asymmetric hippocampus on the left...recommend clinical correlation. What does all this mean??? Are these results serious??? I had the MRI because I blacked out while driving and hit a parked vehicle. Thank God no one was injured. Don t know why I blanked out. Please answer my questions...thank you
I have gone through the MRI report you have mentioned. As such this report is normal, not much worrisome. All these changes are common due to the aging of the brain. Since you have blackout attack, better to rule out absence seizure.
So get done EEG (electroencephalogram) and if it shows abnormality in waves then you may need to start the antiepileptic drug.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar,
