Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I need to understand this case study: Subject 1: A 50-year-old man with no apparent health problems who is moderately active and normal weight has the following blood values: high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol = 30 mg/dL; low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol = 160 mg/dL; and triglycerides = 300 mg/dL.
Hello,i have gone through your question. Thanks for using HCM.In our blood there are different kind of fats viz.Cholesterol and triglycerides. Cholesterols have attachments of proteins on its molecules with variable density. They are lodw density lipoprotein(LDL) and High density lipoprotein(HDL). HDL is protective type of cholesterol and it protects against deposition of fat in arterial wall creating blockages.LDL is most harmful cholesterol in creating blockages in arteries. These cholesterols by themselves do not produce any symptoms.so inspite of high levels person remains apparently healthy for few years. But once blockages develop beyond certain limit it may lead to heart attack, stoke etc. Normal level of LDL should be less than 100 mg,normal level of triglycerides should be Less than 200 amd HDL should be above 35 in males and above 40 in females. i hope This satisfies your querry. My best wishes Dr.Teli,MD
