An MRI to evaluate lumbar pain revealed a fullness in the head of the pancreas. A CT was ordered. The CT showed a retroperitoneal mass in the upper abdomen. I can't see a doctor until next Monday afternoon. Can you give me an idea about what it could be?
Retroperitoneal mass in the upper abdomen may be due to many reasons like enlarged lymph node, germ cell tumour, neuroendocrine tumour etc. It is important to know more details of CT abdomen means type of enhancement, presence of calcification, fat etc. These factors are important for diagnosis. It is also important to sex and age of the patient because it may be due to testicular tumour.
You are rightly advised for MRI for further evaluation. Proper treatment depend upon findings.
